Our Activities
Pinel House is often visited by Elvis (or someone equally charismatic, well dressed, and at least somewhat musical) regularly to engage the residents in a sing-along or just provide some entertainment. When the weather is nice, our residents also enjoy going out to the garden areas. They help keep their house looking good by weeding or helping the landscape artist in the yard, all purely voluntary. Another activity our residents enjoy in good weather is sharing their art in the outdoors. Sidewalk chalk is usually the medium of choice.
We also have some residents that are interested in being more involved with the kitchen. We try to encourage this interest by inviting residents to have a one-on-one baking session with a staff member. These baking sessions are a house favorite because they usually end with something delicious.
Our house will also host barbeques from time to time in the summer and invite Lindley and Miller house residents and staff to come and enjoy our food, company, and backyard view of the valley.
The Pinel House manager made the following statements:
On working for ASH...
"I like that ASH is a small non-profit organization. Helping people live fulfilling lives is its own reward; but working in a house where Elvis is king, staff has good relationships with the residents and it’s a great working environment, it feels more like family than it does work."
For prospective employees...
"In keeping with the ASH mission statement, I look for employees that will treat our residents with compassion, dignity, and respect. I need care givers that are not afraid of working, that are outgoing, and who show initiative."

We are just returning from another fun week at Camp Low Echo located at Lake of the Woods. The clients at ASH have been enjoying this annual week-long camping tradition for more than 20 years now! Camp Low Echo is run by Girl Scouts of Oregon and Southwest Washington; we rent the camp for one beautiful week each year and support our clients that choose to come. There is a main lodge and dining hall, several cabins with electricity and running water available for clients to stay in, a private dock with pedal boats and canoes, we rent a patio boat from the Lake of Woods Marina and have the most beautiful view of Mt. McLaughlin (aka Mt. Pitt). It is a lot of work but worth every bit of it to see smiling, happy campers out in the woods, doing arts and crafts projects in the dining hall or standing up out of a wheel chair to get into a boat!
Residents from Lindley, Miller and Pinel houses, as well as our Community Outreach client enjoyed our annual Memorial day trip to Wild Life Images and a picnic lunch after the tour.
Pinel House attended a party at Miller house put on by the Youth Group from Ashland United Methodist Church, March 21st 2011.
