Job Requirements include:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Supervision, teaching, or training experience with disabled adults preferred.
  • Capacity to relate to disabled persons as adults.
  • Basic skills in homemaking, meal preparation, and food purchasing.

Direct Care/ Support Staff Job Description
General Statement of Duties
Summary:
Staff is responsible for providing support services/ direct care to developmentally disabled adults living in a 24 hour residential care facility.  Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: supervision and/or assistance while bathing, dressing, toileting, grooming, eating, sleeping, taking medications, and community outings.  ASH staff is also responsible for arranging transportation to appointments and activities, house cleaning, cooking, laundry, money management, and record keeping.  Training for all duties and responsibilities will be provided. 
Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. General supervision, care, and support of residents.  Recognition of each resident as an individual adult deserving of respect, and having specific needs and preferences, as well as the basic human needs of dignity, a sense of belonging, sexual needs, and human contact.
  2. Preparation, service, and storage of food.  Supervision of residents during meals and in food preparation area.
  3. Purchase of food and supplies for the facility, as needed.
  4. Transportation of residents to appointments and community outings
  5. Administration and recording of all prescribed and over the counter medications per agency policies and procedures.  Read, sign, understand, and follow all protocols.
  6. Complete all required documentation including: daily house log, medical administration records (MAR), medical progress notes, individual health logs, incident reports, and any tracking data.
  7. Self initiation of household cleaning/maintenance tasks as they are observed and as required by each specific shift task list and in accordance with state, OSHA, and agency standards.
  8. Act as a Client Advocate for one particular resident.  Advocate duties include, but are not limited to : providing input and assistance to the House Manager in developing Individualized Service Plan (ISP); scheduling and monitoring of activities in accordance with the residents’ preferences and ISP goals; assist in client budget development, scheduling and transportation to appointments; vacation planning and accompaniment; room cleaning; and, monitoring of clothing and personal needs.
  9. Participate in the development and implementation of formal behavior plans and informal guidelines.  Work with all staff in maintaining a consistent approach when working with residents. Be familiar with methods of working with each individual resident. Participate in skills training programs as needed.
  10. Be familiar with community resources and support services to assure quality of care.
  11. Participate in and remain knowledgeable of Core Competencies- based training and OSHA standards.  Assist in the training of new staff.
  12. Remain updated on all required certificates and trainings.
  13. Attend all staff meetings and other required trainings.
  14. Accountable and responsible for shift coverage, completion of tasks, and finding substitutes when needed.
  15. Promote a positive, harmonious work environment.
  16. Communicate clearly and effectively with all other staff.
  17. Give and receive constructive criticism in a tactful and respectful manner.
  18. Maintain a professional attitude.
  19. Other duties as assigned.

Please Note:
Shifts are scheduled to provide supportive care and services whenever residents are on the premises and to provide staff to resident ratios as required.  Staff is expected to work the shift assigned when hired.  Any modifications to scheduled shifts, whether temporary or permanent, are subject to management approval.
